Adults with foundational skills gaps are more likely to be incarcerated than those with higher levels of education. Adult education in the correctional setting increases opportunities for employment upon release and supports self-transformation through knowledge. Adult education for justice-involved individuals reduces recidivism, contributing to safer communities and helping families thrive.
Our Programs for Institutionalized Individuals
NMHED funds adult education programs for justice-involved individuals through the New Mexico Department of Corrections and Gordon Bernell Charter School. Several other adult education programs around the state serve institutionalized individuals as well.
