College Remediation

The statewide total remediation rate is 38.4% for recent NM high school graduates (graduated in school year 2022-2023) and enrolled in Summer 2023 or Fall 2023 as first-time freshmen at a New Mexico public higher education institution.
 
Remediation rate calculation included the following factors:

•  Graduated Spring 2023 (Note: Data is from NMHED eDEAR for students that provided a high school graduation year, and not from PED)       
•  Enrolled in Summer 2023 or Fall 2023 as a first time freshman
•  NM public, alternative, and charter high schools
•  Math, reading, and writing remedial courses identified by the institution including co-requisite courses

The following factors are not included: 

• Tribal colleges 
• Dual credit and four-year institutions (University of New Mexico, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, and New Mexico State University)

The statewide total remediation rate is 31.4% for recent NM high school graduates (graduated in school year 2021-2022) and enrolled in Summer 2022 or Fall 2022 as first-time freshmen at a New Mexico public higher education institution.
 
Remediation rate calculation included the following factors:

•  Graduated Spring 2022 (Note: Data is from NMHED eDEAR for students that provided a high school graduation year, and not from PED)       
•  Enrolled in Summer 2022 or Fall 2022 as a first time freshman
•  NM public, alternative, and charter high schools
•  Math, reading, and writing remedial courses identified by the institution  including co-requisite courses

The following factors are not included:

•  Graduated Spring 2021 (Note: Data is from NMHED eDEAR for for students that provided a high school graduation year, and not from PED)       
•  Exclude Dual Credit and Four year Research HEI's (UNM, NMIMT and NMSU)
•  Enrolled in Summer 2021 or Fall 2021 as a first time freshman
•  NM public, alternative, and charter high schools
•  Math, reading, and writing remedial courses identified by the institution including co-requisite

The statewide total remediation rate is around 35.8% for recent NM high school graduates (Graduated in school year 19-20) and enrolled in Summer/Fall 2020 as first time freshmen at a NM public post-secondary institution.

•  Graduated Spring 2020 (Note: Data is from NMHED eDEAR for students that provided a high school graduation year, and not from PED)
•  Exclude Dual Credit and Four year Research HEI's (UNM, NMIMT and NMSU)
•  Enrolled in Summer 2020 or Fall 2020 as a first time freshman
•  NM public, alternative, and charter high schools
•  Math, reading, and writing remedial courses identified by the institution including co-requisite

The statewide total remediation rate is around 39.4% for recent NM high school graduates (Graduated in school year 17-18) and enrolled in Summer/Fall 2019 as first time freshmen at a NM public post-secondary institution.

•  Graduated Spring 2019 (Note: Data is from NMHED eDEAR for students that provided a high school graduation year, and not from PED)
•  Exclude Dual Credit and Four year Research HEI's (UNM, NMIMT and NMSU)
•  Enrolled in Summer 2019 or Fall 2019 as a first time freshman
•  NM public, alternative, and charter high schools
•  Math, reading, and writing remedial courses identified by the institution including co-requisite

The statewide total remediation rate is around 44.2% for recent NM high school graduates (Graduated in school year 17-18) and enrolled in Summer/Fall 2018 as first time freshmen at a NM public post-secondary institution.

•  Exclude Dual Credit and Four year Research HEI's (UNM, NMIMT and NMSU)
•  Enrolled in Summer 2018 or Fall 2018 as a first time freshman
•  NM public, alternative, and charter high schools
•  Math, reading, and writing remedial courses identified by the institution including co-requisite

The statewide total remediation rate is around 44.15% for recent NM high school graduates (Graduated in school year 16-17) and enrolled in Summer/Fall 2017 as first time freshmen at a NM public post-secondary institution.

•  Exclude Dual Credit and Four year Research HEI's (UNM, NMIMT and NMSU)

•  NM public, alternative, and charter high schools
•  Math, reading, and writing remedial courses identified by the institution.
•  New Mexico residents only
