New Mexicans speak many different languages. Find information about learning English as a second (or third! or fourth!) language and programs around the state that provide this service.
Speakers of many different languages live in New Mexico, including immigrants and refugees who contribute to the vibrancy of our local culture and economy. English as a second language (ESL) classes support these speakers to acquire reading, writing, and conversation skills in English.
Citizenship instruction is offered as part of ESL courses to support students who are eligible to become U.S. citizens. In these courses, learners explore U.S. history, government, and other topics necessary to participate in the U.S. citizenship interview process and test.
