SANTA FE — The New Mexico Higher Education Department has completed state authorization renewal for 82 educational institutions for the 2027 academic year, with an additional 11 schools remaining in good standing.
All educational institutions reviewed by the Private Postsecondary Schools Division and its review committee were found to have met all applicable New Mexico state standards and regulations for continued authorization, underscoring the state’s rigorous oversight framework and its commitment to protecting students.
The continued stability in distance education options also underscores long-term growth in flexible learning pathways that support working adults and rural communities.
For the 2027 academic year, the following types of institutions received state authorization renewal:
- 42 distance education institutions
- 35 licensed institutions
- 11 registered institutions (not due for renewal)
- 5 out-of-state proprietary institutions
“The state authorization process continues to serve as an important safeguard for students across New Mexico,” said Higher Education Secretary Stephanie M. Rodriguez. “By ensuring private educational institutions meet standards for transparency, accountability, and educational quality, we help protect students’ educational goals and investments.”
postsecondary institutions meet minimum standards established in state law and the New Mexico Administrative Code. Educational institutions that receive state authorization are recognized as having met these standards and are approved to operate in the state.
According to the Private Post-Secondary Schools Division, all institutions undergoing renewal this year were thoroughly reviewed and confirmed to be in compliance with New Mexico state regulations.
