Free HSE Test Voucher Program
Earning a High School Equivalency (HSE) credential is an excellent step to help secure a better future for yourself and your family. We want to help you reach this goal by covering the cost of your HSE test. Our free test voucher program allows you to choose which test you’d like to take in order to earn your HSE credential: The HiSET® or the GED®
Click here for more information about both tests, as well as information about FREE help to prepare! Please do not call the state Testing Administrator or submit the free test voucher application until you have read this important information.
To be eligible for a free testing voucher, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be a New Mexico resident
- Be at least 16 years old (a completed Underage Permission Form will be required for those ages 16-18)
- Not be currently enrolled in secondary school, and not have graduated from an accredited high school or received a high school equivalency certificate or diploma
- Have a valid government-issued ID
- Pass an Official Practice Test with scores indicating test readiness according to publisher guidelines
Once you’ve met all criteria above, just submit the short testing voucher application to the NMHED state testing administrator. Instructions are on the application, which you can download HERE (English version), or HERE (Spanish version)
Taking Official Practice Tests to prepare for the GED®
- The GED® Ready official practice tests are online and can be taken on your home computer. To purchase GED® Ready, go to: https://ged.com/study/ged_ready/
- Please note that our voucher program only covers the cost of the actual GED® or HiSET® exams themselves; you will be required to cover the small cost to take either Official Practice Test.
- To be eligible for a free GED® exam voucher, you must score a minimum overall average standard score of 150 (Green Zone) on the GED® Ready.
Taking Official Practice Tests to prepare for the HiSET®
- The official practice tests for HiSET® are online and can be taken on your home computer. To purchase these tests, go to: https://hiset.ets.org/prepare/materials
- Please note that our voucher program only covers the cost of the actual GED® or HiSET® exams themselves; you will be required to cover the small cost to take either Official Practice Test.
- To be eligible for a free HiSET® exam voucher, your official practice test scores must place you in the publisher’s “PREPARED” zone.
What to expect once you submit the application
Once the Testing Administrator confirms you have met all eligibility requirements and verifies your Official Practice Test scores, you will be sent a voucher number and instructions via email. Now you’re ready to sign yourself up to test! You have two options: (1) Taking the test on your home computer via remote proctoring (with you paying the proctoring fees), or (2) Taking the test at an approved Testing Center.
